Servings: 4 Difficulty: Beginner
While not actually a French dish, the earliest known version of this dish can be traced to the 4th century in Rome. The French do have a similar dish called pain perdu, which translates to "lost bread" and is thier way of using stale bread to prevent food waste. What we call French Toast is a dish that hails from French American immigrants in the 18th century. It is recognized by its crispy egg coating and silky custard like interior.
